Strategic Planning: A Practical View

Strategic planning today in Inside Higher Ed

I read a great article on strategic planning today in Inside Higher Ed.The title says it all--"Hope and Denial Are Not Strategies". During the summer retreat we spend time on different models for planning. This article reinforces a number of the ideas we have discussed. Dr. Pierce's main argument is that institutional planning must be informed by data and be inspirational but it ultimately must also be feasible. Another point that resonated with me is that she describes our institution's mission statements, which we have to able to explain and accomplish, with this quote:

"What matters to... students is that the institution they choose actually provides what it promises and that what it provides is compelling."
