One of our LECNA presidents forwarded an article to me published by "Academic Impressions" on the skills needed to lead in the complex environment facing higher education today. The authors begin with an overview of Heifetz's Adaptive Leadership model--noting the differences between technical and adaptive challenges. The results of their research can be found here. In brief, the future leadership qualities are:

1. anticipatory thinking, 2.) tolerance of risk and failure, 3.) being an effective facilitator and convener, 4.) courageous decision making, and 5.) resilience.

These are exactly skills and perspectives we are working to build in the LECNA Fellows Program.
